To share knowledge and tell your story. To voice an opinion and be heard.<\/p>\n<p>But even today there are millions around the world who don\u2019t have these freedoms. Take a good look at this section\u00a0before you plan\u00a0a video or film.<\/li>\n<li>\u00a0<strong>Pre- and post-production<\/strong>\u00a0focuses on writing a script and making a storyboard; the use of sound, music and sound effects; film-editing; and finding free internet resources to help you improve and finalise\u00a0your project.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Choose your format of expression<\/strong>\u00a0is all about producing different types of video: video collage, music video clip, feature film, interview, TV news and reportage, documentary, stage performance, sports event, and stop-motion animation. A word about how you might use\u00a0our guide to\u00a0video-making.<\/p>\n<p>VISION is a tool for informal learning. We&#8217;ve drawn on\u00a0our\u00a0professional knowledge and experience, and adapted the content\u00a0for use by beginners.<\/p>\n<p>The aim is to\u00a0provide basic knowledge about video-making, and to\u00a0inspire young people to explore, experiment and create their own videos and films. The guide is also intended as help for youth workers, teachers, mentors and others guiding young people through the learning process.<\/p>\n<p>Some tips from us:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Working on a creative project with young people can be a challenging task. Have\u00a0patience, and respect participants&#8216; views and ideas.<\/li>\n<li>Believe in the young people&#8217;s ability to create excellent videos, and motivate them to develop their skills. You never know just how creative your group is and what might become of their video-making talent in future.<\/li>\n<li>At the start of a project, define the time frame, type of video\u00a0and the topic.<\/li>\n<li>Have some idea of\u00a0the end result you want to achieve.\u00a0Think about how much time it will take to get there, and divide the work into smaller chunks.<\/li>\n<li>Be flexible. Video-making is a\u00a0dynamic\u00a0process, and you may\u00a0have to make changes to your script or filming plan, switch\u00a0locations, and deal with varying availability of the participants. For example, some young people might not be able to\u00a0be there all the time, or they might not have enough motivation to see the project through.<\/li>\n<li>Try to include the young people in the project\u00a0according to their abilities and interests. For example, if someone doesn&#8217;t want to act, don&#8217;t force them to and instead pick someone who doesn&#8217;t mind being in front of the camera.<\/li>\n<li>Be flexible (again): let go of ideas quickly if they don&#8217;t work\u00a0in practice,\u00a0and find other solutions.<\/li>\n<li>Start small and finish what you started; it&#8217;s good for motivation!<\/li>\n<li>Be\u00a0focused, improve with every step, and enjoy the project!<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<blockquote><p>You&#8217;ll find more advice for working in groups at\u00a0the end of each chapter.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<h3>What mentors say<\/h3>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><em>&#8222;I really like working in informal education, especially with young people. You can share knowledge in a relaxed way, and participants are usually very open to new information and experiences. At the end of every workshop I feel\u00a0I was able to give them something, to teach them something new.&#8220;<\/em><\/p>\n<p>-Matej (LIJAmedia)<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><em>&#8222;Project-based\u00a0teaching offers a number of advantages for\u00a0participants in the video and film projects I lead.\u00a0<\/em><em>Motivation is key to learning, and as learners choose to participate voluntarily, they\u00a0already\u00a0have a good start.\u00a0<\/em><em>Nevertheless I try to support each person\u00a0individually, take into account their<\/em><em>\u00a0preferences and abilities, and offer them a great learning atmosphere where they feel looked after and appreciated. This is the best kind of motivation!<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>The other important element is a clear\u00a0structure and common understanding\u00a0of what we&#8217;re trying to achieve as a group. This is crucial if learners are to\u00a0master the often quite complex process of producing a video or film. And I use the prospect of the final result to remind project participants\u00a0about the great outcome\u00a0we&#8217;re working towards,\u00a0and motivate them during difficult\u00a0<\/em><em>project phases.&#8220;<\/em><\/p>\n<p>-Martin (WTV)<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><em>&#8222;I do a lot of work with\u00a0young people on\u00a0media education projects. I find that video-making courses in particular can help them develop a lot of skills and knowledge that they can use both at\u00a0school and elsewhere; it boosts their confidence too. And since many of them have\u00a0tablets, smartphones and computers anyway, they often have a natural affinity towards digital\u00a0technology that&#8217;s just waiting to be harnessed. Some young people&#8217;s projects can have their challenges, but all of them are hugely rewarding.&#8220;<\/em><\/p>\n<p>-Eugen (WTV)<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><em>&#8222;As part of the\u00a0training group that tested the VISION guide, I\u00a0spent six great months working with\u00a0young people and discovering the power of video. I&#8217;m very familiar with the feeling of impatience at\u00a0the start of a filming project, when you&#8217;re really\u00a0keen to get\u00a0everything done as fast as possible\u00a0so you can see the end result quickly!<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>I&#8217;d like to make more videos, both professionally and just for myself.\u00a0I now know the basic rules of filming\u00a0and editing, and I can put them into practice. I&#8217;m also able to analyse video, and I know how to\u00a0translate my ideas onto film.\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n<p>-Sertan (KARAGOZOGLU ILKOGRETIM OKULU GENCLIK VE SPOR KULUBU)<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><em>&#8222;When I first started leading video workshops for young people years ago, I\u00a0was always\u00a0focused on\u00a0the end\u00a0result. This made me very\u00a0nervous and tense throughout\u00a0the video-making\u00a0process. <\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>With time I learned how to create an environment where the young people could\u00a0express their ideas and determine the speed at which we worked, while still being\u00a0able to\u00a0guide them through every step. Working like this\u00a0helps you enjoy the end result a lot more than\u00a0when you&#8217;re working under pressure. <\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>I learned to be\u00a0an equal member of the creative team; I just\u00a0happen to have more technical knowledge and better organisational skills.
